How can i pursue a guy I love who lives far away, without scaring him off?

He and i met a few years ago and had an instant incredible attraction for each other, and subsequently had a short love affair, marked by him going back to his country. Since then, we've briefly kept in touch, but i still adore him pionately. I don't want to freak him out, but would do anything for another chance to see him/perhaps be with him again. Any ideas? I tend to be very honest and fairly open about my feelings, but that's seemed to close him off in the past.... although i know he admires my lifestyle. What can i do to get another chance with him?
