Book about female circision (like autobiography)?

Heya, my mum told me about a really moving book, she cant remember the name, or author, but i do know...its about a woman from africa (i think :S) that at the gae of abou 10 was circised and left tied up to a tree to die, by people that ruled their towns and villages. She goes on to say about when she woke up from conciousness (however) she undid the ropes, and made her way over to france to her other family. I really need to know what this book is called?
